So setting screen off max low is good for battery ... but it's a pitty it will also cause a wakeup lag, since we just cannot have it all, can we ??

Well, YES WE CAN :D

You can now set a wakeup kick (frequency and delay) which will set CPU min. frequency to whatever you want for 0 to 10 seconds, so the wakeup process can be handled fast.

One little drawback, while this seems to work perfectly when you turn the device on, it doesn't when you receiver a phonecall, so whenever your device rings, just press home/power and you can speed up the wakeup quite a bit !

I'm just done coding this, so I haven't had the time to experiment much with it, try it out, find the settings that works best for you, my default is to kick the CPU to 2GHz for 1 second, working fine for me.

Changelog v0.8-beta4

  • updated ramfs to CM11 Nighlty 20140124
  • updated CPU Hardlimit to v1.3 introducing CPU wakeup kick CPU min frequency and delay (Yank555.lu)

Shows this kernel was downloaded 80 plus times, and I'm the only thanks here? That's insane

Well I interprete that as the kernel seems to be working as expected ;)

Yank can you please implement voltage setting for underclock. Thanks for the bad ass kernel.

Thanks for the brilliant kernel and it's working as smooth as butter, I just have one question that ramfs option can be checked in AROMA or not.

Voltage control is pandora's box, I won't add it, sorry, it's not helping with battery (tested this A LOT, and it just does not.

So all I will get from this are instability reports, and I really don't wanna go there.

Let's play Leroy Jehtro Gibbs ;)

Rule #1 : Keep stability as highest priority

On CM and Temasek, keep it set to ROM, I suppose om other AOSP ROMs as well, but it depends on the ROM really...

Hi Yank,

I really appreciate your work. In fact, I had a i9305 before and used to use your kernel as well. Thanks for your work.

As for max cpu frequency while screen off, in my experience, it doens't do much for battery life. My reasoning is that for me to have great idle power consumption (low, that is), I have to have my cpu in deep idle state. If it stays off deep sleep, even if at the lowest frequency (i think 322 in this SoC), then idle power consumption will be much higher than desirable. Because of that, I think the "secret" of having great idle power consumption is to be mostly idle and not undervolting, limiting cpu clock and such.

I'm not sure if anyone else agrees on me on this one, but I would like to have your view on this, if possible.

Again, thanks for your time!

Cheers

This is absolutely right, deep sleep is the only way to really save juice while the screen is off.

But if you have background stuff going on, you can't prevent some waketime, this is normal in that case.

Screen off max. will just help in those awake phases by hindering the CPU to rev. up too far and stay on low freq. since whatever is going on then isn't realtime, getting a messenger message 0.2 seconds later isn't an issue.

A screen off max. will in no way impact deep sleep ability, so don't misunderstand this as a replacement to deep sleep, it's not, it's only working while screen is off and the device is awake for whatever reason.

As such, getting proper control over your apps is key to a good battery life, and the most important step ! :D
