It's a 50/50, if there are only kernel-side commits, then yes, if there are also ROM-side commits, depends...
I'll update the kernel again when I'm at home later.

That is nothing kernel related, but recovery. If you don't need to "reroot", always answer no to that question. It will replace the su binary, which may then not be the one you wanted.

PS: I only use Chainfire's SuperSU, never had a glitch with it an ANY device
